Honey Whisky Apple Oatmeal

Being on vacation and using a foreign kitchen for a week has been interesting to say the least. However, this has also been a blessing in disguise as I have had more time in the morning to make my breakfast and also more time to think of creative ways to make my daily oatmeal even better. My sister in law doesn't have a microwave so I have been making my oatmeal on the stove this week. We also don't have blueberries stocked right now and I have used banana's twice now so I decided that I wanted apples in my oatmeal. Since I had to get a pot out to cook the oatmeal anyways, my inspiration light bulb went off and all of a sudden I was braising apples in honey whiskey to serve as an addition to the standard oatmeal.
Wowsa! Not only were the apples perfect for the oatmeal, the little hint of honey and whiskey was an amazing addition to another version of oatmeal. After a chilly 11km run this morning in Toronto, this was a great breakfast that I was so happy about I snuck downstairs and quickly wrote up this post!


1 serving, 300 calories

  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 100 g yogurt
  • 1 medium apple, diced
  • 1 oz honey whiskey


In a saucepan, add the apples, whiskey and a little bit of oil and cook until the apples have hit your desired softness for oatmeal. Enjoy the smell as the whiskey bubbles into the apples.

Add in your oats and 1 cup water and bring to boil, the turn down and cook for another 1 minutes and then let sit for 2 minutes.

Place into a bowl, add yogurt on top, grab your cup of coffee and your ipad and sit down to enjoy your delicious breakfast. Is it sad that I might just make this for lunch again?

Mmmm, what else could we fry in whiskey to add to oatmeal? Pears, peaches, bananas?

If any fruit, what about different alcohols? Hmmmmm Kahlua?
